OLIVER TWIST: Simpleness Overflows Varied Colors

Last weekend, TNT started playing the drama OLIVER TWIST which is a great work of Charles Dickens. This company is famous of its unusual creativity.

Although it is not a big production with the magnificent stage design and super stars, still deeply attract the audiences. Everyone could enjoy the high qualities of the artists’ performances. The inside spiritual accomplishment can not be expressed by single word.

A drama with only five actors has played more than ten roles included in the play by the way of the gender conversion, and very simple props. It is unbelievable! Nobody could pull themselves out of its theatrical shocks! For instance, Hannah Mcpake was acting as Old Sally but shortly changing to Nancy, who was contrasted sharply. And the main flash spot to the audiences is that Oliver and Dodger, two mail roles were all acted by female, no matter little Oliver’s loneliness or young Dodger’s cynicism was performed accurately and completely without losing the boy’s characteristics. Obviously, gender differences have been skipped from the eyes of the audiences.

The simpleness of the props had never stopped the audiences catching up the changes of the scenes. OLIVER TWIST had vividly concentrated on that infinite world of Britain on such a small stage. Sometimes the stage was shown as the foggy London city; sometimes it had changed to Fagin’s home, after hanging some drying clothes. The mood of the audiences was following easily with the actors’ happiness and sadness.

Comparing with the big production or luxury stage effect, why OLIVER TWIST can win the public praises? To answer the question are passionate body performance and attractive script dialogue. From OLIVER TWIST, we have found the real spirit of drama！
